Variable barcodes are used with the scale to record in your POS system. The product lookup number (PLU) and either weight or price are embedded within the barcode.

Have the portal set up for scale use, see How to Setup Your Portal with the Scale to Weigh Menu Items.

There are three variable barcode types:

1. 12 Digit Price Barcode

  • Embedded price up to $99.99

2.  13 Digit Price Barcode

  • Embedded price up to $999.99
  • POS system must read 13 digit barcodes

3. 12 Digit Weight Barcode

  • Embedded weight up to 99.99
  • Price per weight must be entered for each PLU into the POS system.

For more information on the types of variable weight barcodes, see Variable Weight Barcodes Explained.

Choose which variable weight barcode to use in a printer profile from the layout designer feature editor.
